About OS4Growth

The global adoption of open standards on the Internet gave rise to the World Wide Web and an explosion of innovation and services that were unheard of at the time. OS4GROWTH will establish Open Standards for Innovation Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (startups & scaleups), via a “bottom-up” approach. By the ecosystem actors for the ecosystem actors.

Everyone and anyone trying to navigate startup ecosystems to find what they are looking for, suffer from fragmented, missing or out of date information about people and companies they are looking to connect with and do business with. 

Startup ecosystems face a big digital transformation challenge that requires persistence, systematic and long term focused connectivity building within and between startup ecosystems. Where adding more “platforms, portals and applications” with siloed databases does not fix the connectivity problem, - as the real problem is at the data connectivity level, between various operative applications and within users data portability between these applications. Also to develop any AI-based efficiencies, automation or assistance at ecosystem level, is fully dependent on availability, volume and quality of data.

OS4GROWTH aims for big and scalable impact by focusing on approach and solutions that nobody can effectively solve or lead on their own and where all parties involved can collectively benefit from, via:
  • a) making it easier to cooperation among StartUps and Corporates (and other big organizations).
  • b) helping all ecosystems stakeholders effectively develop one-stop-shop entrances (data hubs & portals), to connect these at real-time data levels and to also feed Startup Europe and Innovation Radar initiatives with valuable data
  • c) enable GDPR key target of users data portability, based on the European Commission rewarded MyData concept, starting with talent data portability (profiles and activity data) between entrepreneurial talent applications, like; talent & co-founder matching, hackathon & startup weekend type events participants, startup job portals, mentor matching etc.

Sustainability of OS4GROWTH is established by design, by initiating with and involving stakeholders that directly see the benefit for sustaining base activity level for their existing core operations, but who are unable to establish and maintain such standards only by themselves.

Background

In October 2018, the European Commission H2020 2018-2020 work programme launched a new EUR 10 million call aimed to "increase connectedness among members of deep-tech startup ecosystems and their companies (startups and scaleups) to the larger European business ecosystem seeking maximum synergies." for a consortium projects in connecting activities between ecosystems, with aim to building an ever closer Union of startups ecosystems.

Startup Commons have been actively supporting this call, in various ways and levels, by communicating actively about this call, helping different consortium members to find each others via our blog, newsletters, webinars and facebook group.

The the application period for this call is now ended.
Decisions for selected projects to be funded, including OS4Growth, will be announced in August 2019.
